7/11/2023 0 Comments Cold waters mods aircraft carrier![]() It may not look like much, but that little boat packs quite a bit of firepower, and damn near all of it is aimed at killing subs. First was a Kanin class DD like this one below (Gremyaschy in a different guise) There was 1 replenishment ship, and it had 3 escorts. I made it to the Greenland Sea just as the Soviets began to return to Murmansk and I attacked. My boat was in port 56 hours doing that, and so when we left to go after the Soviet replenishment group, I had to run the whole way at 26 knots just hoping I didn't blunder into a Soviet patrol en route. So after that really irritating "failed mission" I had no choice but to sail back to Scotland to rearm and repair. I'm sure I can then evade like 3 surface ships, their helicopter compliment, and the 2 or 3 SSNs with them. ![]() ![]() Next time I'll attack the 3rd group with a heavily damaged boat and only 1 weapon. The real kick in the buttocks was that despite sinking all the amphib in 2 out of 3 amphibious groups, I failed the mission. The bad news is I was rearmed/repaired because I'd been sailing around damaged for like 4 days fighting enemy amphibious forces and their escorts until my boat was barely seaworth and down to a single torpedo. The good news for me was that I was fully armed with a max load of Mk48 torpedoes and Harpoon missiles, repaired, and fully stocked with noise makers. Like you have to know what you're doing, and you have to know how your sub handles, and you have to have some relative gauge of how strong or weak a specific class of ship is, and you have to understand how your sonar works and the basics of how to run a TMA or else you'll never detect anything or get accurate firing solutions.Īnyway right so I've been playing a ton of Cold Waters and I got the mission to sail into the Greenland Sea to attack a Soviet replenishment group. If anyone here used to play Warthunder Historical Battles (airplanes only), back when they were called Historical Battles, it's sort of more in that level of simulatiorness I feel. It's not a sim, but it's a lot closer to one than something like WoWS or Battlestations: Midway. It's not like Silent Hunter where you have to manually compute firing solutions and so on - the realistic elements are more in the way the mechanics of the game work, like if you have a contact that is on a bad bearing, your towed array sonar will lose the contact, or the way the different sonar systems work. It's pretty new, and Killerfish Games still have a lot of things they want to put in, but what's in already is pretty good. The game is really fun, striking a balance between things that are realistic but not so far into it that you have to go to Sub School before you can actually play the game. For those not in the know, it's a Cold War era submarine game available on steam from the makers of Atlantic Fleet. ![]() pretty much obsessively since I picked it up a few days ago. I've been playing Cold Waters a lot lately. ![]()
